So yeah…this happened and it was freaking delicious! I’ve never really been a straight whiskey drinker, even though Ron Swanson makes it look so cool. Instead I like to use the alcohol in something fun and dessert-y, like bourbon cherries! With Valentine’s Day literally 2 weeks away, this would be the perfect drink for two! Four Roses Bourbon was kind enough to send some my way and I never pass up a good opportunity. To make this float a little more legit, I naturally topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, and oh so colorful sprinkles. The bourbon cherries are the real star here, so I am more than happy share this simple recipe!
MAKING THE BOURBON CHERRIES
1 Cup Bourbon Whiskey
2 Cups Cherries, pitted
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 Cinnamon Stick
1 Teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
In a small saucepan, add sugar, whiskey, and vanilla extract and simmer on medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Add in cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and the orange peel, turning down the heat to low. Let simmer for about 10 minutes. You can definitely tell when the flavors start to meld, your house will smell delicious! Set the syrup aside and let cool. Add the cherries to a small jar and top with the syrup after it has cooled. Let sit for a few hours before serving to give the cherries some time to soak up the syrup.
As for the float, simply take the bourbon cherry syrup from the jar and mix with soda water, with a 2:1 ratio. Add Vanilla Ice cream, cherries, and of course whipped cream and sprinkles. You can seriously eat these cherries on their own, they are so yummy!
Hope you enjoy! If you have any recipes like these cherries you think I should try, let me know in the comments! And also Happy Valentine’s Day! xx
